Tarheel
and National Capital Joint ///M Car Driver’s School at the BMW Performance Center As
always, the Performance Center provides current model ///M
cars, instructors, gas, tires, lunch and a first-class facility for a
fun-filled day. The school’s
focus is to improve your driving skills through a combination of driving
exercises, classroom instruction and competitive events. No helmets or
previous driving school experience is required. We will be driving current
model ///M
Cars for this event (at the last school, we drove M3s coupes and sedans
with the double clutch transmission, M5’s and M6’s).
Just show up ready to drive! This
school should be similar to previous ones, which have included instruction
on vehicle dynamics, proper driving position, car-control skills,
weight-transfer, oversteer/understeer, and improved vision. The day is
divided into morning and afternoon sessions which mix skill building and
competitive events, including skid pad exercises, wet/dry courses,
autocross and more. Please note that the Performance Center staff
continually makes changes to the program, so session contents and the cars
available to us may vary from one school to the next. Also, this school
format is a special program that the Performance Center makes available to
the BMWCCA chapters, and, while it utilizes the
///M
Cars and shares many of the same elements, it is a different program from
the Performance Center’s one day M-School. Since
this is a joint school, each chapter will have 16 slots available (school
has 32 participants in total). Space
is limited and we anticipate that the school will fill quickly. The cost
of the school is $630 per driver. Registration is now open and
initial applications are being accepted from Tarheel Chapter members
through September 15, 2010 (the “Member Registration Period”).
All completed
applications received from Tarheel BMW CCA members during the
Member Registration Period will receive equal consideration for selection
into the school. If we
have more applicants than slots, participants for the school will be
selected by a random drawing of those applications received on or
before September 15, 2010 (and a wait list will be established for other
applicants). Applications will
be considered complete upon receipt of both the registration form and full
payment. After that space in the school or the wait list is filled on a
first-come first serve basis. After
September 15, 2010 the school will be opened up to members of BMW CCA
chapters on a first come - first served basis. We
will also offer optional dinner/socials on the evenings of Friday,
November 5, and Saturday, November 6.
Subject to availability, we will try to set up a factory tour of
the BMW Manufacturing facility on the afternoon of Friday, November 5.
Due to the size of our group, we are usually split across multiple
tours of manufacturing facility. Since
the NCC folks have a long commute from our nation’s capital, Tarheel
members who want to do the tour should plan to be available for the
earlier tour times, usually beginning around 2:00 p.m.

Applicants may include one immediate family member from their household on
their school registration (i.e. send in $1,260 if your spouse or child
