Upcoming Events-VIR 2010

October 1-3 Registration opens 7/28/10
These dates are all Saturday and Sunday with the customary Instructor orientation day on Friday.  The Friday dates are for Instructors and invited instructor candidates only.

New Requirement: All cars of students in the C & D run groups shall have mufflers such that instruction via intercom by in-car instructor is not impaired by the internal noise in the car. This is a safety issue.  It is also recommended that ALL students consider the issue of internal car noise with respect to safety and getting all that you paid for from your in car-instructor.

Helmet Ratings for Driver School Events

Tarheel Chapter driver school requirements for helmets are:

Helmets must be rated at least the current Snell rating or the immediate prior rating*, i.e.,
if the current available standard is Snell 2005, then Snell 2000 is the minimum
required. The DEC suggests that as you need new helmets, you consider buying
the SA rated helmet. Currently the CCA DEC does still advise that either M or SA are acceptable.

The Tarheel Chapter will accept SA2000 and M2000 helmets through Dec. 31, 2010

Starting January 1, 2011, acceptable helmets will be SA2005, SA2010, M2005 and M2010

The Snell SA2010 standard will take effect October 1, 2010, which gives Chapter Members approximately 5 months to update their helmets before our February 2011 school.

The following information is from the Snell web site FAQ.

What are the differences between the SA and M standards?
SA Standard was designed for auto racing while M Standard was for
motorcycling and other motorsports. There are three major differences
between them:
1. SA standard requires flammability test while the M standard does not;
2. SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets
may not be street legal);
3. SA standard has rollbar impact test while M standard does not.

If you do have a roll bar, or if you use the helmet for driver schools and to ride your motorcycle, you should consider the differences in the protection and how they apply to the way you use your helmet. For now the choice is yours.

HPDS Cancellation Policy using www.motorsportreg.com :

The cancellation policy is provided during the registration procedure (it's displayed in smaller type at the bottom of the pre-registration requirements step along with a link to the MSR terms and conditions). Cancellation prior to the stated cut off date gets your money back minus $50.00 processing fee. After the stated cut off date no refunds are given.

If an attendee registers and ultimately needs to cancel, they can return to the site, sign-in and there is a prominent link that says "Cancel" which initiates an email to the listed registrar.

If the attendee forgets the cancellation policy, they can return and re-read the pre-registration requirements text which is another link available from their dashboard at any time.

Note that Friday prior to an event weekend is reserved for our hard working instructors.  This time is used for orientation and evaluation of guest instructors, training for our instructor cadre and time to share information to improve the HPDS to follow.  Students are not invited to the Friday Instructor Day with the exception of Instructor Candidates. Potential instructor candidates are chosen from among our HPDS students.  See “Becoming an Instructor” in the Q & A section of this web page.
